Commands
To
install heating cables, one must consider the following commands :
·
Never overlap PCHBT or PCHT heating cables
or constant watt cables
·
Do not bend heating cables
·
Consider minimum bending radius (3 * D)
·
Do not damage the insulating sheath of the
heating cable
·
Minimum distance between two cables :
50 mm
·
On plastic pipes, have an aluminium tape
placed on the pipe, then place the heating cable on that tape and have another
aluminium adhesive tape on the cable (optimum heat transfer)
·
Ambiant sensing regulation is highly
recommended for any installation concerning freeze protection – this is
regardless of the type of heating cable
·
Never try to connect directly the heating
wire of PCBT or PCHT heating cables
·
It is imperious to practise an insulation
test, under 500 volts, before and after thermal insulation is installed
·
Electrical protections must be calibrated
according to the heating cables installed
·
Ever use a differential protection of 30 mA
Site tests
Electrical heat tracing
installations must be done in full compliance with rules of art and norms in
force. As soon as components are on the job site, tests and checks must be done
to ensure the perenniality of the installation.
TAKING DELIVERY OF GOODS
Upon receipt of goods, in warehouse or on site, parcels must
be carefully checked before aknowledgement of goods. According to french
regulations, the consignee has to notice in writing on the delivery note any
lack or failure. A registred letter is to be sent within the 3 consecutive days
to the forwarding agent.
NOTE : writing “subject to
unpacking” is of no legal value.
TESTS AND CONTROLS BEFORE INSTALLATION
First of all, check that no component is missing and that
products as received are convenient for the expected purpose. Have a visual
control on the equipment on which the cables will be installed to make sure
that no asperity, sharp points (uneven weldment) will damage them.
TESTS AND CONTROLS BEFORE LAGGING
Before lagging installation, have a
visual checking to make sure that the installation has been made according to
rules ofart, espcially on valves, flanges, pumps, …
Have a insulation test under 500 volts for each line. Tests
results must be registered.
TESTS AND CONTROLS AFTER
LAGGING
Every circuit must IMPERATIVELY be checked. Tests results
must be recorded in order to avoid any further conflict.
-
Visual tests on pumps, valves, flanges, …
-
Visual tests of electric connections
-
Insulation resistance test under 500 volts and values as measured
-
Ohmic resistance of circuit (non energized)
-
Control of electrical and differential protections
-
Control of thermostats set points and action
Installation on equipments
Installation on valve
The heat tracing on a valve must allow
the dismounting of the heating cable for maintenance purposes
·
Secure the heating cable before the valve,
using tape or banding
·
Allow sufficient length of cable to allow
the dismounting and
·
Secure the cable on the other side of the
valve (with tape or banding)
·
Wrap the cable on the body of the valve

NOTA :
for big valves, have an additional « S » on the pipe, both sides of
the valve.
Installation on flanges
The heat tracing on a flange must
allow the dismounting of the heating cable for maintenance purposes (joint
removal)
·
Secure the cable before the flange, using
tape or banding
·
Allow sufficient length of cable to allow
the dismounting and
·
Secure the cable on the over side of the
flange
·
Wrap the cable around the flange
·

NOTA :
for big flange or non insulated flanges, have an additional « S » on
the pipe, both sides of the flange.
Installation on instruments

Take care the cable does
not cross or touch it self.
